Ohio Ave Safety and Mobility Project

WHAT

The Ohio Avenue Safety and Mobility Project will deliver a 1.3-mile two-way protected bikeway between Westgate Avenue and Westwood Boulevard, along with traffic signal upgrades at six intersections and new ADA-compliant curb ramps. West of Westgate, the project extends onto neighborhood streets with traffic calming features such as speed humps and mini traffic circles, creating a safe and continuous connection to Santa Monica and the beach.

WHY

Ohio Avenue is a vital neighborhood corridor connecting Westwood, West Los Angeles, and Santa Monica. As the only east–west street without direct 405 Freeway on- or off-ramps, it serves as a preferred route for bicycling to key destinations such as UCLA, transit stops, and community resources. The improvements advance the goals identified through past planning and outreach by reducing speeding, improving safety at intersections, and creating a more comfortable environment for people of all ages and abilities.
